A "clinical pregnancy" has a pregnancy sac seen in the uterus on ultrasound exam.
The "live birth rate" is the percentage of all IVF cycles that lead to a live birth. This rate does not include miscarriage or still birth and multiple-order births such as twins and triplets are counted as one pregnancy.

Mediterranean Fertility Institute prides itself in being amongst the few fertility institutes in the world, which has the potential to deal with surrogacy.
Gestational Surrogacy, which is allowed by the Greek Law, can be performed at our Institute.
In order such a programme to commence, a court order is required because the surrogate mother will carry and give birth to the child of another woman. The Greek legislation and the favourable Law amendment of 2014, provide the opportunity in even more couples to make their dreams come true.
Dr Ioannis Giakoumakis and his team are highly experienced to help patients to create the family they have always been dreaming of through this process.
Surrogate programmes can only be applied in couples where the female partner cannot bear the child due to medical problems, including:
• Congenital absence of uterus
• Congenital anomalies of the uterus
• Multiple uterus fibromyomas
• Certain medical diseases rendering pregnancy dangerous for a woman's life, such as congenital heart diseases
• Cases of multiple miscarriages
• Selected cases of multiple failure in previous IVF attempts
In Gestational Surrogacy IVF is performed, either with the eggs of the intended mother, or with donor eggs. Therefore, the surrogate mother might be genetically unrelated to the baby.
In essence, there are three different stages:
• Oocyte retrieval of either the intended mother or a donor
• Fertilization of the oocytes with the sperm (of the partner or donor) through IVF
• Transfer of the fertilized eggs (embryos) into the womb of the surrogate mother
The embryos can be transferred into the surrogate mother either in a “fresh” or “frozen” cycle. For a fresh cycle, the monthly cycles of the surrogate mother and the oocyte donor are synchronised, and this is done using hormone medications. For a frozen cycle (where embryos have been frozen and having been thawed for transfer) surrogate mother takes hormone medications to “ready” her womb lining.
