Welcome to the Pedieos IVF Center, one of the oldest Centers offering IVF and egg donation (ovum donation) treatment in Europe.
Our center performed the first successful IVF treatment in 1987 and the first ICSI baby in 1992. The ICSI success makes our center probably the second in the world that adopted ICSI technology successfully; the first is VUB in Brussels.
In 1992 we had the oldest woman in the world (50 years old), who delivered a baby after ovum (egg) donation, as recorded in the Guiness Book of Records in 1992 and 1993.
Today, we operate an extensive ovum donation (egg donation), and sperm donation program with international donors and recipients. The great variety of our donors is possible thanks to the operation of many colleges and universities on the island with students from northern and southern Europe, Asia and Africa. Our recipients are also international: European-especially UK, Italy, Malta and Northern Europe. Quite a few recipients come also from the Middle East and elsewhere. Obviously, the geographical position of the island is contributing to its international status as a center for medical services of all kinds.
Presently our egg donation (ovum donation) results show a consistent success rate over 60%. At the same time, our prices are extremely competitive within Europe; probably the most affordable, especially if the patients choose our special offer. We do not charge our patients for luxurious buildings, impressive surroundings and other things that do not contribute to the successful treatment outcome.
The egg donation (ovum donation) program is run professionally by scientists and not secretaries, who give personal attention to everyone applying for information about treatment. The donors and recipients are matched to the maximum satisfaction of the recipient before the treatment process is started, while the waiting period is not longer than 3 months.
The Center is the first in Greece and Cyprus to achieve pregnancies with the following methods:
* Gamete Intra-Fallopian Transfer (GIFT) – 1987
* Zygote Intra-Fallopian Transfer (ZIFT) – 1988
* Testicular Sperm Extraction (TESA)
* Micro Epididymal Sperm Aspiration (MESA)
* Intra Cytoplasmic Semen Injection (ICSI) – 1992
* Ovum Donation – 1990
PEDIEOS IVF CENTER was the first worldwide, to have achieved pregnancy with globozoospermia (rare but severe disorder in male infertility where the spermatozoa is characterized by 100% round headed spermatozoa lacking an acrosome). (Human Reproduction, 1995, Vol.10, w. 4, pp. 880-882-Case Report)
Our recent work on the vitrification of human embryos was published in Reproductive Biomedicine Online Journal (Vitrification of biopsied embryos at cleavage, morula and blastocyst stage (2009)Reprod Biomed Online Oct;19(4):526-31).
Furthermore, our last work on the virification of human oocytes was published in Fertility and Sterility ( Comparison outcome of fresh and vitrified donor oocytes in an egg-sharing donation program (2011) Fertility and Sterility May;95(6):1996-2000)
The combination of the high quality work, reasonable prices and personal care makes Pedieos IVF Center attractive for IVF and ovum donation treatments in Cyprus, a country with fantastic climate.

Pedieos IVF Center is fully accredited as a Day-care Clinic with the Government of Cyprus and at the same time is fully licensed as a European Union Cell and Tissue Directive member.
Our Ovum Donation program has been running since 1990. The potential recipient has the choice of proposing their own donor or Pedieos IVF Center may find one for their approval on an anonymous basis and with a maximum waiting period of three months.
Ovum donation can be done by sharing eggs of a women undergoing IVF treatment or receiving the donated eggs from an approved donor.
Only a short time (less than 4 days) is necessary for a recipient from abroad to stay in Cyprus for this treatment
Our dedicated egg donors are:
(i) Fully tested for sexually transmissible diseases (HIV, HBsAg, anti-HBc, HCV, VDRL)
(ii) Under the age of 34 years
(iii) From healthy family background
(iv) From various ethnic origins
Popular demand for more genetic tests on female donors has been increasing. At the same time, donors without these tests are less ‘expensive’ and more appealing to certain groups of people. Following the policies adopted by many sperm banks, we decided to offer two groups of donors in our program:
Group I: Donors tested for sexually transmitted diseases, such as HIV, HCV, HBsAg, VDRL, Anti-HBc IgM, CMV IgM, are our traditional group of donors.
Group II: For donors with extra genetic tests please contact the center. The number of genetic tests requested will obviously affect the total cost and the scheduling procedure.
The success rate of Ovum Donation is very high
Which women are candidates for the Ovum Donation program?
•Primary ovarian failure
•Ovarian damage following surgery, radiation or chemotherapy
• An inheritable genetic disorder
• Repeated failure to respond to ovarian stimulation in an IVF program
The procedure in simple words
The recipient’s menstrual cycle (if she is menstruating) must be synchronised with the donor’s menstrual cycle. In order to achieve this, the recipient receives a hormonal replacement therapy which allows the manipulation of her cycle accordingly to the donor’s cycle. The donated oocytes are then fertilised with the sperm of the recipient’s partner or donor sperm where indicated. Fertilised and healthy looking embryos are then transferred to the recipient’s womb which has been hormonally prepared to accept and nurture the embryo. Extra embryos can be cryopreserved and stored in PEDIEOS CRYO BANK for use in a future cycle if the recipient wishes to do so.
The prospective recipient completes a form providing details of both her and her partner’s characteristics in order to register with the ovum donation program. The program coordinator will then try to match the couple with a potential donor according to their characteristics, hair colour, height, weight, blood type and skin colour. No photos of the donors are available at any stage. Donors remain anonymous to the recipient, and vice versa, unless a recipient recruits a donor of her own. Recipients are given the direct line of the coordinator and they can communicate directly regarding any queries they have about the program.
’Precision Donor’ Software
Pedieos IVF Center recognizes the necessity of the children to look like their parents, as this will help them bond together. To improve our services towards women who chose to have an egg donation IVF cycle, we are now using Precision Donor, a 3-D Facial Recognition Software, available from the U.S.A., that allows matching the facial and other characteristics of our recipients with our donors. The donors and the recipients only have to provide our clinic with a photo of themselves. This method safeguards the patients’ personal information and ensures the donors will remain anonymous.
The software first matches the facial characteristics and destroys the picture. Once the facial matching is done, then we refine our results by considering other features such as ethnicity, religion, education, blood type, height, eye and hair colour.
There is an extra fee in order for the patients to use this system that ensures more precise matching of the donors with the recipients.
A "clinical pregnancy" has a pregnancy sac seen in the uterus on ultrasound exam.
The "live birth rate" is the percentage of all IVF cycles that lead to a live birth. This rate does not include miscarriage or still birth and multiple-order births such as twins and triplets are counted as one pregnancy.
