A "clinical pregnancy" has a pregnancy sac seen in the uterus on ultrasound exam.
The "live birth rate" is the percentage of all IVF cycles that lead to a live birth. This rate does not include miscarriage or still birth and multiple-order births such as twins and triplets are counted as one pregnancy.

In Finland, the donation of eggs and sperm is legally controlled by the Act on Assisted Fertility Treatments which entered into force in 2007. Donating cells does not require you to become a parent of the child or give you any entitlement to it.
According to the Act, the cells of one donor can be used to treat a maximum of five different women. Several children may be born in the same family using the cells of the same donor. The donor may not know who received their cells, and the parents of the children resulting from the treatment are not entitled to learn the identity of the donor. The donor has, however, the right to know whether any children were born as a result of treatments using their cells, if they want to know. The donor has the right to revoke the donation for the part of any unused cells, if they change their mind as a result of their situation, for example.
According to the Act on Assisted Fertility Treatments, children born as a result of using donor cells have the right to learn the identity of the donor when they are adults (18 years). A prerequisite for this is that the parents tell the child how they were conceived. Nowadays, parents are encouraged to talk about this openly.
