Dr. Tran graduated at the top of his medical school class, before arriving at UCSF, where he completed both his residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology and fellowship in Reproductive Endocrinology. After his fellowship, Dr. Tran joined the UCSF Faculty as Assistant Professor of Obstetrics & Gynecology and the Principal Investigator at the Center for Regenerative Medicine, where he became a leading clinical researcher in ovarian insufficiency, endometriosis, and stem cell research. Dr. Tran is board certified physician in both Obstetrics and Gynecology and Reproductive Endocrinology & Infertility.
Dr. Tran’s research focus mirrors his clinical interest in premature ovarian failure, endometriosis, and azoospermia. He was the first to generate primordial germ cells from women and men with premature germ cell failure to investigate possible cures for these patients.
Dr. Tran also discovered and patented a procedure allowing physicians and scientists to use sperm stem cells to treat male infertility. This “first of its kind” experimental procedure was recognized with the Society of Male Reproduction and Urology Scholar Award and the American Society of Reproductive Medicine (ASRM) Scientific Prize Paper winner 2015.
When not in the clinic or lab, Dr. Tran enjoys spending time traveling, hiking, and reading.
